LAUREN MOORE
Through my work I question the notions of perfection and individuality and how they juxtapose against each other. We are constantly shown images of perceived perfection, what is it really? Why do we strive for perfection? Do we truly want to be individuals? Or are our imperfections what make us individuals?
I distort my initial sketches in a way that I cannot control the outcome to create dream state portraits. These are collaged together using a collection of hand made textures and marks to reflect our life experiences.
My work acknowledges that we are all a patchwork of experiences intricately woven and pieced together making us individuals.
I create multi layered textured artworks. I am particularly drawn to the contrast of matt and shine surfaces, using enamel paints, inks, acrylics and oil pastels. My process is instinctive, with no rules on process’ layering and revealing to create surface landscapes.
“I am collector of things and have an insatiable need to mark make. I collect anything with an interesting surface. Vintage fabrics are a recurring source of inspiration for me, from the way weaves are constructed, to the way patterns fold and drape.”
Lauren Moore graduated from Surrey Institute of Art and Design in 2007. From there she went on to work for over a decade for an international fashion brand. Leading the team responsible for hand crafting and creating print artworks, fabrications and colour palettes. In late 2019 Lauren left to explore my own practice and artist development and has exhibited with Jealous Gallery London, Woolwich Print Fair and at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
