ROSE ELECTRA HARRIS
I have many different processes when making my work. I prefer things not to be too planned as otherwise I become bogged down in representing objects, flowers and furniture exactly as they are, rather than how I see them.
“I find it fascinating how the home can be an extension of ourselves. What we surround ourselves with can resemble our own characters. I love this about objects and art. ”

When drawing I usually start with one object in-front of me and work my way out, making up a composition as I go. I am not interested in perfect perspectives so this works for me, but I do think one needs an understanding of those ‘rules’ when making work. I also like to work on many pieces at a time to allow space from particular works. I also like how this can inform a body of work too.
I use a lot of different materials in my work, mostly due to my background in printmaking but also due my love for mixed media. I use oil, pigment, acrylic, ink, gouache, pastels and recently spray paint.
My studio is in South Bermondsey and it is the biggest studio I have ever had. I love it completely and feel so lucky to have it as my own. It’s light, spacious and my refuge. In my work I paint interiors, still lifes but have never painted my studio until recently. I collect objects and pieces of furniture so am excited to build a body of work using the space around me in my studio.
