All the pieces are handmade, without the lathe. It means long hours working and different imperfections which is great because, for me, the imperfections make the object unique.
“Sometimes you just have to stop and do things with a different rhythm. I realise making pottery is a good practice to do that, not only to be more patient but also recognise the value of unexpected things.”
Creating ceramics requires me to wait between steps, from the building to the painting before finally seeing the result. It’s weird because by now we live in symbiosis with a digital reality. The way we process information, facts and images so quickly reflects the way we live our lives, there’s no space for waiting.
Because of the glaze, I never really know how that piece will work. The glazes have mineral grains inside which create different kinds of effects.
During this summer I made my own lab in the old family farm. It’s not too big and in front of my parent’s house, in the middle of the countryside, which is the perfect place to work with clay.
