PANGEA
The root of our project is based on projection: what world are we aiming for? What do we dream about? From the ideas come doodles, then sketches, then drawings. From drawings we go to patterns, sourcing (upcycled) fabrics, cutting and finally sewing up our pieces.
“Laëtitia is a painter and I’m a fashion designer originally, making "textile paintings" was a way for us to merge our worlds and find a playful way of exploring colour and pattern in space.”
Laëtitia works in her house in Portugal near Lisbon. It's a beautiful quiet remote space where she finds the perfect context for creation. I work in my couture atelier in the heart of Paris, surrounded by the effervescent city which brings a lot of inspiration and connections. Both spaces are complementary: Paris brings opportunities, Lisbon offers the best conditions to develop our creations. We visit each other on a monthly basis to work together.
Two rules of Pangea is freedom and no boundaries. We allow ourselves to express our ideas through installation, performance, art objects as well as commercial products such as homeware and fashion. There is no hierarchy for us between art and applied art, we enjoy creating a giant art installation as much as making cushions.
Laëtitia Rouget & Colombine Jubert merge their visions to create Pangea. Laëtitia is a painter and ceramic artist, Colombine is a fashion designer and Creative Director. Together, they fight for optimism imagining a hybrid utopia mixing art, fashion and performance.
Long time friends, they met while attending their creative studies at Central Saint Martins in London.
Pangea has had exhibitions at 0fr Paris, 0fr Marseille, Le Consulat Voltaire (Paris) AND Change NOW (Paris). They have collaborated on large scale installations with The Conran Shop and Paris Aéroport.
