CASA CURIO
“Inspired by nature, particularly the sea and marine wildlife, My shell ceramics are a playful nod to the colours and textures of the fauna and flora found under the ocean’s surface; from the vivid green and blue waters of Margate, to the colourful reefs of the tropics.”
All of Casa Curio’s ceramics are hand-built in Issie Gibbons’s studio in Cliftonville, Margate - a short walk from the waters of Walpole Bay.

The shells are shaped using moulds from various seashells collected on the beaches of Kent, and further afield, over the years. Once the pieces are roughly shaped, they are finished by hand, and details are impressed from real shells, coral, and other beach treasures.
Casa Curio’s ceramics are fired in the kilns at Clayspace Studios in Margate, a non-profit community creative space and professional ceramics studio.
The fired ceramic shells are then hand glazed, and the lip of the shells are finished with a gold or copper lustre.
Our signature shell dishes are created with the home in mind; for both decorative and practical purposes. The giant clamshells can be used as fruit bowls and the clamshell sets are beautiful in the bathroom for soap and trinkets, or in the kitchen for salt and pepper, and the shell spice spoons for seasoning food with favourite spices.
Casa Curio was founded by Fashion Stylist Issie Gibbons in Margate, Kent, in 2020.
