MOLLY
MAHON

I print with blocks made of wood, into which my patterns are carved. Other than that I still work with pencil and paper to create my patterns, a mix of lovely linens and cottons and my own bespoke range of eco paints that are drain safe and fast drying.

“My three pieces are a real extension of my block printing process that I have been using for years. Fascinated by Kantha stitch and the fine embroidery work I have witnessed in India I was inspired to try this myself and have included running stitch and French knots over the prints.  Each wall hanging has its own print and story.”

Block printing has been around for thousands of years and little has changed in the process, the fact that this is such an ancient craft really resonates with me.

My work tends to spring from three main areas of inspiration.  The fabulous colours and ‘thud-thud’ sound of the block in Jaipur, the palettes and shapes I find in nature, and the decorative style of Vanessa Bell (a key member of the Bloomsbury Group) in her home at Charleston Farmhouse.

Based in Sussex, Molly is a British printmaker whose block print originals are applied to fabrics, wallpapers and a growing range of homewares or, as we like to call it, functional arts.  She has been featured in publications such as House & Garden and The World of Interiors.
